I asked Kate B. and Mike G. to participate in this test.
What
For this test, I wanted to see if users could complete a specific task - requesting a product demonstration for SNAGG Software. By not directly guiding them through the process I was also able to test the site's navigation.
How
For this test I asked the users to walk me through how they would request a product demonstration using the site.
The Good
Kate was easily able to navigate to the product demonstration form using the site's navigation. She found the site generally inviting and easy to navigate. Mike had similar results and comments.
Areas for Improvement
Kate commented that she wasn't able to click on all the tabs and the tabs don't go away when you hover away. The first indicates that I needed to explain better that not all tabs and links are active in the wireframe. The second is more of a flaw in the prototype but a good note to make sure things behave as expected on the site.
The survey itself would have benefited from another look before sending. The questions about images and content seem out of place as the focus was on the task and the content and images aren't on the site yet.
The Unexpected
Kate's first comment when asked to walk me through requesting a product demonstration was "Well, if I knew I wanted a product demonstration I would just click the Contact Us tab first." It took me by surprise because I hadn't actually thought that people might think to just push through that way. I wonder if I need to account for that in the contact form somehow. I noticed also that Mike hovered over the Contact Us link at first before going to the Products & Services link. I asked why, and he said the same thing, that if he knew he was going to request a demo he would probably go there first.
